Run the same search for "commercial roofer" from an office in Westshore and from a kitchen in Brandon, and Google can hand back two different map packs. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence, and in Tampa Bay, distance has a lot of water in it.
Both sides are growing fast. Hillsborough County alone counted 42,977 employer establishments in 2023 (U.S. Census Bureau), and the Tampa metro division added 11,800 jobs in a year, the largest gain of any metro in Florida (state labor data). Finance and insurance firms fill Westshore. Moffitt, Tampa General and BayCare anchor healthcare. MacDill Air Force Base feeds a defense contracting economy most outsiders never notice.
Search behavior follows the split. Someone in St. Petersburg types "Tampa" when they mean the whole region. Someone in Wesley Chapel types "near me" and gets whatever sits closest. Firms that rank well on one side of the Howard Frankland Bridge often vanish on the other.
Then there is the headquarters wave. Wagamama USA, Catalent and Limbach have moved headquarters to Tampa since 2025, and Foot Locker landed across the bay in St. Pete. Every new HQ needs lawyers, accountants, IT support and facilities vendors, and finds them by searching. The fix is a plan for each side of the bay, built on a site Google trusts.
